For the next year (or more) I will be working allmost exclusively with illustrations for a new book. The emphasis will be on identification, I'll share more details along the way. Right now, I'm working with Cormorants/Shags, and the painting in this post shows some of the species along the coast of Norway that someone without experience might confuse them with, especially in backlight. The birds are Black-throated Diver (first winter), Barnacle Goose, Great Northern Diver (adult starting to moult into winter plumage) and Cormorant (first winter).
Also, I went to Sula last weekend. This is an island located far west in the the county Sør-Trøndelag. Many rarities has been found here in September-October in recent years, among them Norway's first Orphean Warbler. We only found around four Yellow-browed Warblers, but had a nice stay on a beautiful island. Sula is probably best known for birds, but it also held a seemingly massive population of Hedgehogs (introduced, of course), and quite a few Otters (I had never seen this species in the wild before).

Jag ser fram emot att läsa din bok, Öivind. Mycket fina bilder!
